Hungarian baritone Máté Herczeg graduated from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest and the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. He has been recognized in various competitions, including the 2018 Éva Andor Singing Competition (Second Prize) and the 2016 József Simándy International Singing Competition (Special Prize).

Máté Herczeg made his debut as a soloist on the opera stages of the Salzburg Festival and MÜPA Budapest during his studies. After graduating from the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, he returned to the Salzburg Festival in 2023, where he sang the leading role of Vlad in the world premiere of the new opera Ping Pong, composed for the festival by Mischa Tangian. In 2024, he joined the Accademia del Belcanto Rodolfo Celletti as part of the Young Artist Program of the Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca, Italy. That year, he appeared as a bass soloist in Handel’s Messiah in the Great Hall of the Mozarteum in Salzburg, as Friedrich in Wagner’s opera Das Liebesverbot, and in the title role of Vanni Moretto’s opera Der Wassermann.

His operatic repertoire includes Mozart’s Papageno (“The Magic Flute”), Donizetti’s Malatesta (“Don Pasquale”), Offenbach’s Jupiter (“Orpheus in the Underworld”), Humperdinck’s Peter Besenbinder (“Hansel and Gretel”), Leoncavallo’s Silvio (“Pagliacci”), and Tan Dun’s Seikyo (“Tea: A Mirror of the Soul”).

„Graf von Eberbach (Máté Herczeg) possessed a commanding baritone voice, which filled the room, and he performed the aria 'Heiterkeit und Fröhlichkeit' with convincing hedonistic charm.”
